What is the process for breast milk jewellery?

Once we receive your breast milk (see here https://wirlinga.com.au/pages/postage for information on how to package and ship your keepsake/s), the first step is preservation. We use a two-step system with pharmaceutical grade preservatives. This ensures your keepsake will not go brown/black (basically rot) over time.

Once your milk has been preserved, it needs to dry. Start waiting, because this can take up to a week! Typically milk with a higher fat content dries faster. Dried milk is then ground into a powder, ready to be added to our HALS UV Stabilised resin, to make your keepsake stone.

What is your turnaround time?

Our standard turn around time is 8-10 weeks from the time we receive your keepsake. We keep in constant communication with you, to ensure you are aware of any delays. We also love for you to get a 'behind the scenes' look at what we do.

Any orders that have settings coming from the US or Israel, will take an extra two weeks to complete. We do not order the settings until you have placed your order, and it takes approx. 2 weeks for the settings to arrive in our studio.

What keepsakes do you work with?

We can work with anything! The most common keepsakes we use include:

  • Breastmilk;
  • Hair;
  • Ashes;
  • Fur;
  • Placenta;
  • Umbilical Cord;
  • Fabric.

We are also more than happy to work with you to create a piece of jewellery that will be perfect just for you.

I love your work, but the exact piece I would like is not there?!?

Here at Wirlinga Designs we strive to create a piece for each customer that sings to their heart. If you would like something specific, or a variation on something on our website, please get in touch:

We would love to make you something special.

What are you payment options?

We currently accept the following:

  • Cash (for customers local to Albury/Wodonga, to be paid at the time the keepsake is dropped to us);
  • AfterPay
  • Eftpos (for local customers, we have EFT available);
  • Paypal;
  • Direct Deposit;
  • Payment Plan/Layby (to be agreed upon between Janine and the customer, at Janine's discretion).

What happens to my leftover keepsakes?

Typically, all the breastmilk you send will be preserved. Any that is not preserved is stored in my freezer for 12 months. At the end of this time, I will contact you and ask what you would like to do with it. I understand that the breastfeeding journey can be difficult, and that BM is liquid gold.

For the preserved breastmilk, I keep leftover powder in a storage container, labelled with each client's name and order number. Again, this will be stored for 12 months, and I am more than happy to send it back to you. Please note though, that other keepsake artists most likely won't work with milk powder they have not preserved themselves.

All leftover hair/ashes/flowers etc. are returned with your keepsake piece. Often, there is none left.

Thank you for choosing us to create your special keepsake piece. We hand craft all our pieces here, at our studio in Thurgoona, just a stone throw from the mighty Murray River. Each piece gets dedicated time, effort, and care. No two keepsakes are on our workbench at the same time.
